This free novella is chronologically, the first book of Eigrae. Taking place before the events of Magic’s Genesis: The Grey and before magic has entered the world. In this prequel, we find Wynter in his role as a king’s assassin, being mentored by Krieger, and tasked to find out information about a sect of the god Tum.

What’s up with the name Rosaire?
I’m the youngest of 7, six boys - all the regular names were taken. Also, I think my parents just grabbed their parents’ names - after 7 kids the naming gets to be a chore and you just want something you can remember.
How many books have you written
Mace & Sword is my eighth - plus the two novellas, Mines of Tula’chae and Cleric of Tum. The latest book is part of the 5-book Ranger’s Deck series following Mieragon, the Ranger who can transform into a Black Dragon. The 3rd book of the series, The Sprite, should be available in Spring 2024.
Are you going to feed me?
To be fair, this is the question that my cats seem to be asking me all the time. I have five of them and when they aren’t sitting on my keyboard impeding my progress on whatever I’m working on, they do this.
What’s the premise of the 30 Stones Saga?
It began with a question: ‘What happened when the first person learned magic?’ I mean, someone had to be first, and I wanted to explore what that might look like. Going back to that point has given me the opportunity to let readers see how Dragons were created, and how the infiltration of magic changes the world.

Do you get beat up a lot?
This isn’t really a frequent question - but it is one a guy in the Air Force asked me when i first joined as a military journalist. In fact, it was the first thing he ever said to me. I learned a lot from that guy. (and, by the way, the answer to the question was then, and remains today, ‘no’)
