About Me

Everything you didn’t know you wanted to know

Father of two, human to five (cats), husband to one.

Writing has been a part of my professional life since I was 18, when I joined the Air Force as a journalist. After 25 years in uniform that included lots of world-traveling, I had some ideas floating around the old brain box that wanted to be written down properly. So, in 2016 that’s what I started to do, with the result being Magic’s Genesis: The Grey.

When the first book was finished, I thought, why not another. And after the first six book series was finished, I said, ‘let’s do another series, only longer!’ And now there are two additional books in what will one day be an 11 book series. If you ever need evidence of my ‘issues’ there it is, right there.

So, if you’re still reading this, you’re probably at work poking around the internet wanting to do something to kill time before lunch or going home, or with morning coffee, or before a meeting - definitely at work though; and you’re reading this because you don’t want the noise of a YouTube video giving you away. I’m happy to provide this service for you.

If, somehow, you’ve landed on the ‘About Me’ page without knowing what this site is about, then you my friend, have an odd way of scrolling through websites. But, because I’ve acknowledged the possibility that you’re here by accident, I’ll tell you - I am a writer of fantasy fiction. I do not write romantic fantasy fiction, or the kind where people run around quoting poetry and singing songs. I write the kind where people make rational (ish) choices based on the weirdness of their situation. And let’s face it, this is a world with magic, so there is often weirdness in their situations. And there are dragons - because of course there are dragons. Why wouldn’t there be bloody dragons? If you’re going to all the trouble of creating a world with magic, there is no good reason not to have a dragon or two (at least).

Dragons are the coolest thing ever invented by - people who were probably on drugs, I don’t know - but they’re awesome, so I have those. (Dragons, not drugs.) Also people in my stories are going to get killed and unlike some cinematic universes, they are going to stay dead (mostly). Because fantasy stories are essentially about armed lunatics, a character you know and like is probably going to meet their end before you finish a series. If I’m honest, well before that. I know at least two grown men who have told me they cried because character(s) died. Making them cry was not my intention - it was just a bonus! If I’m honest, those admissions made me happier than a grown person has a right to be. I reveled in their sadness, and then after giving it considerable thought, I reveled some more. I likes me some reveling.

Oh, and there are no ‘effing vampires or werewolves anywhere in the eight books I’ve written so far. In fact, if you ever find a book written by me that has a vampire in it, please understand I did it because someone backed a truck full of money up to my door and I sold out. It would be the only reason that would make sense.

If you’ve made it this far, I now feel confident enough to try to sell you something. So, buy a book. Or all eight. If you really are here by accident, think of what a nice gift a signed six book set would make for someone - and how much happier they’d be if you also included the first two books of the next set! You can also find me on Facebook. I have an Instagram account but use it so little you might find it before I do, and my Twitter account, well I spent a day deleting old tweets and chucked in the whole thing when it went under new management. Not because I cared which millionaire (billionaire) owned it, but because it seemed like a good a time as any. But while you’re here on my site, download a FREE (what?) novella and join my newsletter - because that kind of thing is somehow validating for me.

Thanks for stopping by and please check out the rest of my site if you haven’t already.

What People Are Saying about Magic’s Genesis: The Grey

I like when as such throws out what has been before and starts fresh. Heros to love, bad, bad people. And, a new type of magic

A book that immerses you in a very interesting fictional universe. Tragic characters and brilliant heroes

Loved this book from beginning to end! Never a dull moment. If you are a fan of fantasy, don't pass this up. Almost missed a bus stop twice getting lost in this book. Cannot wait for the next installment!
